Here at Pacific Hills Farms, we take pride in our sustainability programs. We have implemented programs on the farm and in the lab. The following are a few examples of our numerous conservation efforts.
We hope that they inspire you to reduce your carbon footprint at work and at home.
Naturally, we require a lot of electricity. We use electric fans, dehumidifiers, lighting, and farm equipment to support our hemp cultivation and curing processes. Throughout our farm, you can find solar panels soaking up the sun's rays and converting it into usable power. These panels mitigate the high-power cost typically found on a hemp farm and processing facility. Here are some tips that we have learned over the years.
Stay out of the shade; nothing is worse than a solar panel in the shade. Here in the PNW, we need to take advantage of every sunny day. Trim back trees and keep solar panels away from infrastructure to provide them with all day sun.
Position solar panels to face southwest. We have found the best position to be at 219 degrees. This position is ideal for those of us in the northern hemisphere. It allows us to optimize direct sunlight year-round and is facing westward to capture those strong evening rays.
Maintain your panels. Luckily for us, the PNW rains take care of most of our cleaning needs. However, it is important to regularly clean off the panels to prevent dust from blocking the solar cells. A little bit of soapy water and a wipe is all you need.
Our little hemp plants need plenty of water. To prevent water waste, we water using drip lines so that we can ensure that each plant gets its feeding twice daily. To keep up with water demands for the farm, a water reservoir was built and gathers water during Oregon’s rainy season(s). We pump water from the reservoir to water and feed our hemp crops, and other farming projects. The man-made lake is home to fish, ducks, geese, and even beavers!
We strive for full transparency and detailed documentation of our products at every stage. We were facing a mountain of paperwork however, we partnered with Isolocity who helped us to digitize all our internal documents. It's amazing how much time we save when all our documents are in a single place and accessible at any time. If you have any questions about our products during any stage of processing or would like more information about Isolocity, feel free to reach out.
